What is a LED light therapy?

LED light therapy, or light emitting diode light therapy is a skincare treatment that uses varying wavelengths of light, including red and blue. LED light therapy is used to help regenerate the skin from aging. It’s also used for acne. The light frequency varies based on the skincare concerne: red for anti-aging and blue for acne treatment. LEDs do not contain ultraviolet rays and are therefore safe for regular use.

The red light frequency treats the epidermis or outer layer of the skin. The epidermis absorbs it which stimulates collagen proteins. The skin looks smoother and fuller, reading the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The blue light targets the sebaceous glands, also called oil glands. They’re located beneath your hair follicles. The light will make those glands less active and the skin less oily. Blue light can also kill acne-causing bacteria beneath the skin, which can help treat severe acne pimples, including cysts and nodules.

Who is this facial treatment for?

LED light therapy is a facial treatment that is suitable for all skin colors and types, for both men and women. Do not use LED light therapy if you take Accutane for acne or if you’re experiencing skin rashes. It is hypoallergenic and safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

This facial is perfect for patients suffering from acne or very oily skin. The therapy can kill acne-causing bacteria. It is also great for those experiencing signs of skin-aging. A LED light therapy can be combined with microneedling or deep cleansing facial. For example, the combination of blue light and deep cleansing facial treats acne and blemishes making sure that there is no inflammation afterward.

What to expect from a LED light therapy treatment?

Each LED light therapy treatment lasts about 20 minutes. Some customers take a short nap during the procedure. This is a perfect beautifying break during the day. Patients will likely need up to 10 treatments total, depending on the results they are looking to achieve as well as the skin conditions they are suffering from.

The esthetician will have the patient lie directly underneath the light. LED light therapy is noninvasive. Thus, no recovery time is required. Patients should be able to continue with your everyday activities once this facial treatment is over. The results aren’t permanent.
