Amongst the most popular ways of hair removal is waxing. Caramel, chocolate, sugaring. Waxing. And with it come very well-known side effects… and a bit less known bad side effects. Sure, pain is a famous one. However, this one alone should be enough to make your give up on waxing and switch to laser hair removal. And after we lists some more bad side effects of waxing, you will want to undergo laser hair removal and be rid off your hair permanently.
1. Ingrown hairs after waxing
Ingrown hairs also are a side effect of shaving and depilating. As a hair regrows, it becomes less dense and it can curl around. It can also grow inward rather than outward as it normally would, becoming trapped under the skin. This happens because waxing removes hair in the opposite direction of hair growth. People with sensitive skin are more likely to suffer from ingrown hairs.
2. Pimples after waxing
One of the side effects of waxing is that it will leave your pores open. Breakouts can occur afterward due to bacteria entering through tiny areas of trauma in the skin, leading to inflammation and potential infection. It is common to get tiny bumps or whiteheads after a wax. Exfoliating prior to waxing and then applying an anti-inflammatory agent can help prevent these pesky breakouts.
3. Redness and irritation
One of the most common side effects of waxing is redness and irritation. It generally depends on the sensitivity of the skin. Since waxing involves the hair being removed from the follicle, you will feel pain associated with the hairs are being ripped from their roots. Better avoid friction on the area afterward and wear loose clothing.
4. Infection after waxing
An infection can occur after waxing if the skin has been damaged: fresh-cut, burn, wound. Although infections are rare, their chances of occurring increase for people with very sensitive skin. On some occasions, folliculitis, a bacterial infection, may occur. Although it often resolves on its own, it is still uncomfortable and you won’t be able to wax or pluck for at least a month.
5. Allergic reactions
Ingredients used in wax products vary from salons to salons. Thus, it’s possible to have an allergic reaction to them. You can test out a small area on your arm and remove hair as instructed, to see how your skin will respond to the product at hand. If there’s no rash within 24 hours, it should be safe to use. This way, you can see whether your face is too sensitive for that particular wax. Don’t use face wax if you notice hives, itchiness, or a red rash after testing it out. This works if you wax at home, but what if you’d rather wax at a salon and you are allergic to their wax products?
Ready to make the switch yet? If knowing about the bad sad effects of waxing did not help, you should know that laser hair removal solves all the issues mentioned above. Laser hair removal will help remove ingrown hair. There will not be any itchy hair growth nor pain. And most important, laser hair removal might seem like a big investment in the short-term, but in the long term, it will help you save a lot of money you’d have spent on waxing. If you are still not convinced, know that there are always ways to make laser hair removal more affordable!

I’ve never tried waxing before. I was tempted to try it, but I’m worried about the pain. So I just shave!
I am not a fan of waxing. To me it takes to long and can be painful
I have never and will never wax. I’d rather shave because I’ve heard so many horror stories. Plus I have very sensitive skin.
I’ve never waxed before lol but I heard it is very painful…Great post, sharing it with my friends.
I’ve been waxing for decades! I also have super sensitive skin so I usually have one of these problems at any given time. Very informative!
I’ve actually never been waxed before, although I’ve been considering it before going on vacation. Thanks for sharing some insight!
I’m not a fan of waxing. It causes too much irritation.
I have been waxing for many years, but for a few years now I have stopped and sincerely my skin thanks, although it has now weakened very becoming very delicate.
I waxed my eyebrows for years. The biggest side effect I had was the redness and irritation for about an hour. I am glad to not be doing it that way anymore.
I have never waxed before and honestly, never plan on doing so. It just isn’t worth it in my mind and I am never wearing anything that would force me to wax too.
I did not know there were bad side effects. I don’t wax, but these are good to know I guess.
Thanks for sharing these helpful insights. J truly would like to try laser removal as I have heard great reviews!
I get ingrown hairs after waxing. What helps me a lot is exfoliating after.
