Why Remove Back Hair?

There may be plenty of reasons why you decide to remove back. Although most hair removal patients wishing to treat their back are men, some female customers also do give it a go.

Some women will naturally have more or less hair on their back. While some will not be bothered, others will be. Very often that not, female patients decide to remove body hair on their back, shoulders or waistline for aesthetic purposes. Women who suffer from hirsutism will also want to reduce hair growth on their body.

Hair removal is a growing trend amongst male demographics. As a result, at Infinity Laser Spa, we see more and more male customers coming in. They also have their reasons to remove unwanted body hair: aesthetic, comfort, hygiene, personal preferences, athletics, etc.

Transgender people going through transition may also wish to remove unwanted hair, on their back as well as other areas of their body. Hair removal is an annoying yet essential aspect of transitioning from male to female. In any case, removing one’s back hair is very tricky and is safer when done by a professional.

Common Hair Removal Methods

Hair removal is not a new thing. It has been around for ages and thus has a long history. Removing hair on your back is something that you can do using a variety of hair removal techniques.

If it's any consolation, scientists say that back hair is a sign of high testosterone. Manliness aside, each guy has a different preference for how to groom the area (or to not groom it at all). If you're on the fence—or maybe you're new to the club Consider these choices for back hair removal and maintenance.

Shaving

Slathering on some shaving cream and shaving with a razor is a quick and easy way to remove all that fuzz from your back. Shaving is probably the easiest and fastest way to remove body hair on the go. After all, a razor, a few minutes in the shower and you are good. Yes, it works fine when it comes to doing your legs or underarms. What about your back though? It would be very difficult to reach your back and shave. Not only will you miss a lot of areas but you can also cut yourself. Plus, think of the aftermath: the itchy regrowth, the ingrown hair, the razor bumps

Depilatory creams

Another quick hair removal method that you can try at home. The concept is easy. You apply the cream all over the area you wish to treat. Then, you let it rest for a few minutes and you remove it. Ideally, the chemicals will have dissolved the hair. You will just have to swipe it away. In reality? Not so easy! Especially when it comes to treating your back. How can you do that on your own anyway?!

On the other hand, some of the chemicals within depilatory creams or lotions can have harsh effects on sensitive skin.

Waxing

Do we even need to get into this one? Sure, just because you asked. Waxing is a very common hair removal method that has been around for centuries. The concept is simply yet very painful. You spread wax on the skin, let dry a few seconds and pull the wax off. Yes, it is very efficient and removes a lot of hair at once. It is also very painful. Plus, how do you expect to wax the hair off your back on your own?

Now that you made it here and that you know what we think of other hair removal methods, it is time to focus on the one and only method that works: laser hair removal. If you have sensitive skin or are particularly vulnerable to pain, you may want to avoid some of the more painful back hair removal methods like waxing.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal uses a concept called selective photothermolysis. A wavelength will match a pulse duration, allowing the laser to target a specific object at the surface of the skin without damaging surrounding tissues. In the context of a laser treatment, the object is the melanin in the hair.

During a laser session, the light energy emitted by the targets the pigment in the hair. Once the melanin absorbs the energy, the latter travels all the way down to the follicle. There, the light turns into thermal energy and anchors itself to the follicle. The heat will then destroy the follicle, preventing any further growth.

Back laser hair removal only works when the hair is in the anagen phase of growth. Indeed, it is the only time the hair and follicle connect, allowing the energy to travel from the former to the latter. Unfortunately, only 20% off all hair is in the correct phase of growth. Thus, a laser session can only treat up to 20%. This explains why a laser treatment always includes several sessions, six weeks apart.

What Is Back Laser Hair Removal?

Full back laser hair removal is a laser treatment that targets body hair on the back of the patient. The full back includes the entire back from the base of the spine to above the buttocks. This treatment includes the waistline as well. It does not include the shoulders.

A full back laser hair removal session takes up to twenty minutes to complete. The treatment feels like a rubber band slapping the skin followed by a cooling sensation. Laser hair removal is not painful. Each patient has a different tolerance to pain so each patient will feel differently. However, compared to waxing, laser hair removal is nothing.

At Infinity Laser Spa, we also offer a full-back laser hair removal service. Patients can choose to treat their lower back or upper back. Book a free consultation now or come in for your first session!
